As part of my Diploma i had to do a number of Nutrition assesments both as exams and by sending information taken by me on my clients (willing volunteers of course)
The first thing i do is provide a body fat assessment, which is much better than BMI and i get each person to fill in a diet sheet which you fill in, i then look at it and offer advice and before you say it will be exercise, it may not be but do remember exercise does burn more calories than just sitting around. So we at Sweat and Smile Personal Training often mixes both 1-2-1 personal training and diet advice together.

Tips for fat loss
Include resistance training and cardiovascular in your training.
Cut down on calories you eat and drink. Many experts agree that 1/2kg to 1kg weight loss per week is ideal and to lose 1/2kg you need to burn around 3500 calories. This may sound a lot but infact it's simple to do for example you could cut out that bar of chocolate you had this morning or that glass of wine last night, whilst increasing your exercise and you could increase the energy you expend per day by 200 calories and thus 1/2kg per week. This may sound obvious and sound to good to be true, well in fact it's not. Most diets fail as they are to restrictive and leave you feeling hungry. When in what is needed is food that is nutritious, enjoyable and satisfies your hunger.
